Batik Is The Heritage From Indonesia

Batik is treasure from country named Indonesia.  Batik has been known since hundreds years ago. Since The Dutch colonial era, has been describe as one of the cultural belongs to Indonesia. Batik originated from ancient Javanese language which means AMBA (write out) and TITIK (dots). And that's right....! Batik design from dots indeed......

In Indonesia, Batik has been known treasure from Java Island. One of archipelago in Indonesia. Since over hundreds years ago, Batik has been used by Javanese nobility only. Batik also as symbolic dress for casual or formal ceremonies among the Javanese nobility. And each of strokes of the batik fabric that has strong meaning in the philosophy from the ancient Javanese.

Yore, in The Dutch Colonial era, batik only used by nobles and only can be found in the scope of the palace. Even in its uses, batik had a very complicated rules. The commoners or government officials wanted to used batik, they should to waiting for an official letter or notice letter which has been approved by The Dutch Colonial Government called  Besluiten.

Rumah Batik
History of batik closely linked to the era of Majapahit Kingdom. In a few notes has been found, developing of batik fabric mostly done in the Mataram Kingdom. The second strongest kingdom after Majapahit Kingdom's dynasty. And continued in era of Mataram Kingdom which has been divided being two kingdom called Surakarta and Yogyakarta.

Art of batik fabric has been belonged to Javanese society since the late of century XVIII and early XIX century. All batik fabrics which produced original by handmade was done by ladies maid and palace servants. Printed batik became known after World War I.  


This print tool for batik made of a copper mold. The goal was to increase the production of batik and made batik as general mass dress to all Javanese people. Why ?
Nothing other as symbol of resistance to the economic policies which issued by The Dutch Government Colonial.


Coloring materials for batik fabric consist of Noni trees, sago and tilapia. Mix with soda materials from soda ash and salt made from soil mud. In Indonesia, this mixture known as Malam. Or in english is wax. This coloring technique for batik fabric to prevent erosion of the color in washing process. In international art world, this coloring technique known as wax resist dyeing.

 
Based on merging the coloring technique, imaging stroke technique and technology in the manufacture of batik fabric, since 2nd October 2009, UNESCO as the world body in charge for education, science and cultural specifying batik fabric as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
